After a successful pre-season preparation, Maxim Rehm started the Italian Formula 4 Championship in May. While the season opener in Misano was still subdued, the newcomer got off to a flying start on the traditional circuit in Imola and celebrated a victory in the rookie classification and other podium finishes.
The Italian Formula 4 Championship is regarded as a great talent factory and is one of the strongest junior racing series in the world. The season comprises a total of seven race weekends with three races per event. The season opener took place on the first weekend in May in Misano. Maxim Rehm travelled on to Imola for the second round. The race track has a long tradition and was the venue for the Formula 1 World Championship just a few weeks ago.
Maxim already felt very comfortable in the practice sessions and got a good starting position for the three races in qualifying. In perfect weather conditions, the US Racing protégé fought his way up to sixth place and set in the oppening race a first exclamation mark as runner-up in the rookie classification.
There was a minor setback in the second race due to a retirement, but this was forgotten by Sunday evening. Maxim took his chance in the final race and celebrated a great success in a field of 37 drivers. In addition to third place in the overall standings, he was able to pop the champagne corks as the rookie winner.
‘I'm super happy about how the weekend went. After Misano, I worked even harder and prepared very intensively for Imola. The result vindicates me and gives me great motivation for the rest of the season. A big thank you to my team and everyone involved for their support,’ beamed the 16-year-old on the podium.
The season continues for Maxim in just two weeks' time. The championship will then return to Vallelunga for the third round.
